I got an early Christmas surprise when Scott Kent called and asked me to join him and his friend Zeke for a grouper trip!

After arriving early I had to wait on the guys. The morning was chilly and foggy but was great to smell the salt marsh and watch the early morning fisherfolk idling by with their lights on in the fog.

Got underway shortly and went out to an area and tried trolling some - no luck. Went on out and tried another - no luck. Went out to a spot that Zeke had great luck at two weeks previous and anchored. In a short amount of time Scott landed a short gag grouper a little while later I landed a short red grouper. That was about it. Got into some ruby-lips that were good size. Didn't catch but one black bass and it was small, caught some squirrel fish and they were small too.

Scott decided to drift and I caught a keeper gag 24", Zeke followed with a short red then I caught another keeper red 21". That was it for the grouper. Hard to believe, the weather was beautiful and seas were calm, it just "looked" like a day when fish would bite! :smt009
But the company was outstanding and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Thanks to Scott and Zeke for having me along - you couldn't ask for better hosts. We'll get 'em next time.....

Had a very similar experience Sunday the 17th. Went to all the right places, trolled with all the right lures but unfortunately the grouper did not get the memo. But it was an absolutely beautiful day on the water. Dolphins escorted us out of the river and sea turtles popped up their heads offshore. No fish but a great day fishing.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and the line at the boat ramp gets longer.
