Camera question
A week ago this past Saturday I drove out to Missouri on business. In addition to more ice than I'd ever seen, while I was there, someone decided to break into my vehicle. All I know that they got was my camera that was in the console.
The camera was a Nikon CoolPix 4600 I think. I'd had it a year or so and used it quite a bit. I never could get as good pictures with it though as I could with an old Sony which was my first digital camera.I had a hard time holding it still enough not to get blurred pictures.
My question is, what kinds of cameras do some of you use ? I carry a camera with me all the time including when I'm flats fishing. I'll probably try to stop tomorrow or Wed and get a new one. I'd like some advice as to what some of you are using and are satisfied with.

I use a cheap refurbished Kodak that is held together with electrical tape. It is a 3.2 mega pixel paid less than $100. I have taken that Kodak on the water many many times. It reminds me of the Timex slogan, "Takes a Licking and keeps on Clicking"... On board fimage counter says I've taken over 4,000 images to date. It's been dropped three times that I know of, and got wet twice....

Time is the most precious commodity we have in life, stay focused.

I use the Olympus Stylus 720SW.
Its shockproof to about 5ft and water proof to 10 ft deep. You can get it for 299-350 depending on where you shop.

Estimated Retail Price: $379.99
Less than 0.8" thick, this versatile, compact digital camera is designed with the signature style and performance for which the Stylus line is renowned with the added benefits of Shock and Waterproof technology - perfect for any situation, durable enough for shooting in any conditions. From hiking, surfing and skiing to parties and Little League games, the solid, shock-absorbing design combines with waterproof sealants to deliver clear, vibrant pictures of whatever, whenever, wherever.
SHOCKPROOF (5 ft.).
If you can take it, it can take it. Its durable exterior and interior construction absorbs impact brought on by a drop or other accidental trauma so your camera and images are protected.
WATERPROOF (10 ft.).
Take it in the pool, in the ocean, at the water park or on the boat - the Stylus 720 SW delivers great results to depths up to 10 feet (for up to 1 hour) underwater using the same sealant technology used in our underwater housings.
BRIGHT CAPTURE TECHNOLOGY.
Shooting in low light is no longer a problem. Even when it's too dark for your eyes to see, you can preview your subject clearly on the large 2.5" LCD and capture sharp and bright images without having to use a flash thanks to Bright Capture Technology, unique to the Stylus line.
DIGITAL IMAGE STABILIZATION MODE.
A high ISO sensitivity and fast shutter speed mean pictures of moving subjects that typically come out blurry will now be clear and enjoyable. With Digital Image Stabilization, you’ll never have to worry about camera shake again.
28 SHOOTING MODES.
Choose from among 28 pre-set shooting modes to get superior image quality, color and clarity in most any situation - night, sunset, beach & snow, candlelight, (4) under water scene modes and more. Also captures VGA-quality video with sound.
EASY TO SEE 2.5" LCD SCREEN.
Images are easier to capture and more impressive to share on this premium-sized 2.5" LCD screen.
ONE-TOUCH, PICTBRIDGE PRINTING.
Connect to any PictBridge-enabled printer, display an image on the LCD, and print it with just the push of a button on the back of the camera...no computer necessary.
I got bout the same as the one you had stolen- Nikon 7600. Had it about a year and a half. It's been dropped, bounced around on the dash of the boat and generally abused. I do keep it in a tight leather cover, though. Not that much problem with blurry shots for me. Gotta remember to put a little pressure on the shutter button before shooting, so the dang thing can auto focus. With a 512mb SD card I can shoot bout a zillion (couple hundred) pics in the PC mode (1024x768). Not that good on alk bats though, so I carry extras on most occasions.
I'd buy another one, if this one went TU.

I know what my next camera will be.
If we were all crazy, Wouldn't that make us all normal.
Re: Camera question
Its an old topic, and tech has come a long way...Thought I'd add a little to it.
Just ordered a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS10. It is dropproof to 5', waterproof to 10', 14.1mp, image stablized, HD video, and only $165 from amazon. I ordered an 8gb memory card to go with it. Others in the running were a Pentax and the Olympus, but this one was nearly half the cost of the rest of the field. I figure for less than $200, I can take this one everywhere, and not worry about dropping, drowning or breaking it. Perfect for having a kid. I also ordered the red one, so if I drop it while snorkling, I have a better chance of finding it.
