Took my friends Bonnie and Jake to the Suwannee River to play yesterday.Great time had by all.

Hey Git-R-Wet,

What is the situation with rocks in the Suwannee?

Three or four years back I launched at a state park near Ellaville when the river was at mid to low-flow and headed upstream for a few miles until I reached the Alapaha. It was really, really beautiful with some incredible side springs. I did not see any protruding rocks although the Alapaha was mightly shallow. Then I doubled back and headed up Withlacoochee - again beautiful with no apparent rocks. Then I headed downstream under US 90 and some big powerlines until I could see I-75 and suddenly the rocks seemed everywhere to where I had to carefully pick my way back.

Do I have the right read on problem areas for rocks?

You are right about going upstream from the park,not many rocks just shallow sandbars. But down stream between hwy 90 and I-10 not I-75 that is extremely bad area,you got lucky if you went thru there and didn't break something,you also got lucky in the withlacoochee that whole river is full of rocks the water level must have been just high enough to hide the dangers. And from I-10 all the way to Branford is rock shoals here and there that will claim the lower unit. Down river from Branford the shallow sandbars start again with few rocks to worry about.
