A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
Jumper,
I am planning on being down in C-belle for part of that time too. We should hook up. Will know my plans better in a few weeks.... so I will get up with you then....
Getting between those type of friends can be a violating experience.
These boards have been great for fishing info. I just got back from the keys where (based upon info given on board) we got into a bunch of skipjack tuna. Man what a blast.
I will get some pictures posted. If I can figure out how.
Jumper - I too will be in Carrabelle after Christmas. Not sure if we are headed over on the 26th or 27th. I am planning to fish offshore but will also be running over to the St. George bridge to do some sheephead fishing as well. Looks like I might be down a day or two ahead of you guys so give me a holler when you get down and I will be glad to share some information on the fishing. Will be aboard "OUTTA CONTROL" - a 23' Wellcraft cuddy on channel 16. Also will be satying at the Moorings.
BryanW - I hope you tell me you like your Wellcraft. I just finished purchasing my 270 Coastal and I cannot wait to fish out of it.
Dont know much about the bridge area. Maybe you can give me some points on fishing for Sheepshead in that area. Caught alot down in Crystal River, but none up here.
Jumper - I too have just recently purchased my Wellcraft but I have been well pleased with its preformace. There are a few things that I am having to deal with but nothing major. I purchased my boat in Sept. and have already logged about 30 hours on it. So far, it's been great.
How did we get LY from alewife......well thats what the yankees(and literature) call'm! .....truthfully I think they are just full grown men-hayden but who cares as long as the grouper eat'm....a rose by any other name would smell just as damn stinky...... I wouldn't be running out to the TOWERS even with a 27ft boat......there is no need to go rock'n and rollin all the way out there when the Grouper are coming in shallow...plus the rock bass are get'n greedy(they'll eat your egg wait man!) this time of year too! My dad and I caught some some nice fat gags and a chubby red grpr off of O tower and the areas outlying structure one winter day...we were also plagued by lesser amberjack and Ubettarelease'm red snapper. We tied off and chummed...kinda like fishing the oil rigs out of Mississippi. Even with that said I recommend just trolling plugs and watching your bottom machine for some good bottom to drop on.......the fish should be in tight this time of year. I hope to put that to the test Friday or Saturday weather permitting
K tower is about as far as I would run in the winter. Most of the better fishing as long as the water temp is above 55° is in 30-40 feet.
Just a word to the wise, tying up to the Air Force towers is a Federal offense and they do not kid around about it. Also a quick wind or tide change and you'll loose most of your gelcoat.
Very good point. Dont want to irritate the US Air Force or lose my gel coat. Thought maybe I would anchor up off of the towers and chum. Would you suggest surface chum or near the bottom?
