Sorry to throw my dog into the fray this late but just stumbled across the thread. Here's a couple of pictures of my 198 semiV. 1997 Hull, 1998 Yamaha 75 hp. Don't know if I could get use to anything smaller now. When you take 2-4 fishermen with their gear, and MY boat gear that stays with the boat, things fill up pretty quick. Have I ever owned anything smaller...Sure! and I did very well. But I didn't always have what I should have or needed either. :o The Carolina Skiff is a good unit. I don't know if you have a choice in what your looking at, but I would choose the highest transom height I could get. In addition, anything like front and rear decks, consoles, etc that can be installed at the factory over being done at the dealers....get em done at the factory. You will be much happier with the over all finished product.

That's a real nice rig Sir Reel.
Although my intentions are to keep it small, light, and less expensive to operate.
Yes I know bigger is better in boats, but bigger cost more all the way around too.
My intentions are to stay pretty close in to mainly fish for reds and flounder, and trout if they are in close.
I will go with a short transom cause my motor is short shaft.

I want a Carolina or some sort of fiberglass, but am reviewing my thoughts on this now.
I might just get a little bigger welded aluminum hull, from a 1544 I have now to a 1648.
This would suit my present intentions in one package for fresh and saltwater use. ( except for that nasty hull slap! )
I'm just not sure how often I'll be going to the flats yet.

Now....if'n I lived nearer to the coast..... :-D
