Sounds like either a bearing or the anti-reverse bearing. Easy enough to tear it apart then clean and oil all of them. Clean the bearings in a film container with lighter fluid then dry and oil with a low viscosity oil. The anti-reverse bearing needs grease. Let me know if I can help.

Without looking at it I would say check the Line Roller Bearing. Take it out clean it and oil it don't try oiling it in the reel it needs to be clean. If you use braid you will get a little noise out of it. if your not sure which part number it is look back at Jsuber last post, it's part numbers 7463, 6294, 6035, 6293 and 7786 or take it to Jerry's.

Both my 4000 and my 2500 did the same thing. I sent them to bass pro and they replaced the bearing and the noise stopped. They charged me $33 dollars for each and they came back looking brand new
