In my experience, they're less common in colder and/or deeper water, but I don't know whether or not there's any scientific basis of rhtat or if it's just a coincidence. They do seem more prevalent in the hot summer months.
P.S. - thank so many of you for reminding me I'm in the south - do you guys deep-fry your redfish too?!?!?

Hot grease will kill or cure what ails you. Next time you think about throwing fillets out, let me know.
