Dude, sorry about the boat. I told you those tides were crazy this week. Ive been fishing down there most of my life and I find new adventures almost everytime I go. Tell your buddy a SeaTow membership is cheap.

Bet you were in the area where those 3 red X's are.....Them are some big rocks and will get ya on a low tide....

That sucks. As many times as I've been out of there in the past, its a wonder I've not done the same thing. I'm knocking on wood as I type.

Actually, we were just west of there...not too much further. I'm sure there could be a few more X's added to that chart though......I'm going back out this weekend in my other smaller boat to retrieve to foot. I'll mark the spot and post the coordinates of another X

I would have done it the other day but I didn't have my GPS unit and my buddy's boat is equipped with the exclusive Eagle FishElite 500 which is basically good for nothing but taking up dash space

Wow! Dolphinatic - I am sorry that happened to you. I was at Econfina on Thursday and could not believe how low it was. We came in around 2 and made it into the mouth, but then had to slow down to idle speed. Even at idle, with the motor tilted up, I found a new rock right in the middle of the river as it bends to the left heading in, just past the mouth. Luckily we only tapped it. I can only assume I am running on borrowed time running out from the tripod as well. Thanks to Dubble Trubble for the little map of the rocks out from the tripod.

I am not saying you will NOT hit a rock, but if you will use this route until you get to deeper water, then turn east or west, and either go out or be in by a 1.5 ft tide, you will stand a real good chance of no problems. USE the Trees-marsh line as a general rule as to when to open up to WOT and to back down.....

And I will repeat it, that curve to the left after the no wake ends at those houses has a BIG rock to the middle-left. If you are going out, stay a little to the right of the center....opposite coming in....




Gettin' in and out of the river is easy. It is all that other stuff out there that you gotta worry about....

Dolphinatic- I looked it up and you came in at a tide of about 1 foot, and had a wind pushing water out of the river......That's when it gets hairy.....

What a nightmare. Sorry about the lower unit. Nice trout though. It's funny, I got back into fishing after moving back to Florida with the thought, "it's cheaper than golf."

Been there done that! During the fires in the spring in south Ga with all the smoke everywhere, I fished with a friend at Icky and he forgot his GPS. He had fished there for years but we were fishing "blind". We started back in from Hickory Mound and were too close to shore , when his boat did one of those "little bumps" too. He pulled the motor up and he lost his foot. We called the Bait & Tackle store at the dock on the radio and one of the fishing guides was nice enough to tow us in. He didn't charge us but we were more than happy to give him a nice "tip".

Tough day for sure! Trust insurance will help with the foot!
I just recently joined Sea Tow for the peace of mind it offers.
