I have the Minn Kota onboard charger and I just plug in and forget about it. It charges my batteries quickly and I am pleased with it.

on my 24 volt system i put a battery switch between the 2 batteries and just use a 12 volt triple charger. one to each trolling battery and one to the cranking battery

From what I hear, for reliability, you want a guest or a dual pro. Cabelas has teh 10 amp 24v guest on sale for $99 right now.

I have this one on my boat and it has been great. I have the plug flush mounted on the side of my console so all I have to do is plug the extension cord into it.

Guest works fine!

Well, I dropped her off at Advantage this morning for a check up and charger install. Great guys over there (TC and some guy named Dale). Even picked up my donation for the Social & a few for the tackle box.

Let me tell you guys a secret. If you have an aluminum boat, be sure to isolate your batteries when charging. Otherwise if you have even the slightest ground in your system, you will be putting a charge on your hull. This charge leads to electrolysis of the aluminum that leads to holes in the aluminum.

Thats good advice right there. I don't use an onboard charger. I always disconnect the batteries before I charge them.

I am conducting a little experiment.....I have a 2 bank minkota and a 2 bank guest on my STV (skunk transporting vessel), this way I will be able to tell which brand is better.....both bought at the same time along with the same brand of batteries.

It is amazing how much better a trolling motor works when the batteries are charged up.

So, what kind did you get ?????????

Two bank Guest.

I have two Minn Kota chargers on my boat. The three bank is for the 3 trolling batteries and the 2 bank is for the cranking batteries. I have had both of them on there since July 06 and never a problem. One suggestion, go ahead and install the external plug so all you have to do is plug in one extension cord, without climbing in your clean boat with dirty azz feet!!

You're right about that, you just have to remember to unplug it when you leave in the morning. It was amazing how much better that trolling motor works when the batteries are charged up.
