You know there was a lot of bait swimming around and I did not think about trying to catch any of them with a sabaki rig. That could have been the ticket also.

Mating might have been the issue. There was one really big cobia and a bunch of medium size ones swimming around it. I bet they were just preoccupied. We did have them run up a couple of times on our bait and up to the boat, but then they just turned and went back to what they were doing.

I was wondering where I could get live eels at. That is good to know.

Here are a few one of my co-workers got over the weekend.

If you are going to use a cat fish, cut off the barbs, the cobia will notice that every time.

sounds like you did everything right, but i like to keep a couple of 6-8" catfish on board when ever possibly for the cobia. they are like crack for those fish! I don't even cut the fins off of them! The inside of dog island (west end) in the sandy areas is a great place to catch the with pinfish traps.
