Some people feel comfortable in certain areas because they can catch fish in those areas. They cannot catch fish in unfamiliar areas because they are what I call weekend fishermen.
If you are a real fisherman you can take your skills on the road and catch fish anywhere. It does not mean on a given day you will catch. It means on a given day you probably should catch.
Baits are the same way, a confidence bait catches more fish, regardless of where you fish.
The Captain Mikes tube bait caught good fish for me because, as soon as I saw it, I believed I would catch good fish with it.
I did.
Back to the structure thing. Different areas provide different types of structure. It may be rocks, bars, dropoffs', sand holes, shell bottom, sand, mud, etc. etc. Just because fish hold to a certain type of structure in one area does not mean they will hold to that type structure in another. Mostly because that type structure may not be there.
The type structure you feel comfortable fishing may not exist in another area.

If you strive to become a better fisherman in all areas, you will become a better fisherman in all areas.

I am chimming!!!. The licensend fishing guides in question are 2 of the many fishing guides I have had the opportunity to fish with over the years.
I will fish with anyone, given the opportunity.
Of the fishing guides I fish with, I rank all of them as friends. The same as I do with many other people I fish with.
In years past I played a lot of golf. I consistently scored under 72. I was consistently asked to play invitational only tournaments. I consistently won lots of money and prizes doing this.
When playing golf I did the same as I do fishing. I attempt to fish with the best fishermen. I played golf with the best golfers.
If you want to hack play with hackers.
If you want to win play with winners.
Anyone who wants to improve their recreational skills should participate with and compete against people who are better than themselves.
Something that gives me great pleasure is, that of the better fishermen I have fished with, all of them have told me they have learned something of value from me.
I know damn well I have learned from them.
If you do not compete against people better than you, you will never become better.
As far as my competition record goes in fishing, I have done quite well without fishing with these people. I have only taken my level of participation a step up.
I do not know why this question has surfaced more often recently. I have fished with some of the best for years, including my brother, Birddog,Tincan,Chalk,BigT,BassBoys,Basshole,CaseyCook and many more. These people are not fishing guides, but in my opinion are as good or better than most fishing guides I know.
I will not stop fishing with people better than me unless and until I feel I have nothing else to learn about fishing. I have fished 55 years. I am still learning.
Back to the original accusation....I have a very good win, place, show record without the people you dislike.
If everyone here would fish more often and pay attention you could become better fishermen.
In the past 10 years my brother and I have won lots of tournaments and caught lots of quality fish. Mostly because he would fish at least 3 days a week and keep up with the fish.
I am president of a saltwater fishing club. One of my goals is to make the members of this fishing club better fishermen, the same as I am trying to make myself a better fisherman.
As Capt. Keyser said...DONE....

Well written JT. If you want to get the sticks out of the closet and play with a winner give me a call.

I guess its kinda like Judge Mills Lane said, "if you can't get along, then get it on".
Maybe JT and MD should just go ahead and square off. :smt064
