If it is the Halifax River (Daytona Beach) during shrimping season expect to get a ticket if you are anchored in the channel.

Re: anchored on channel
If someone is sitting IN the channel, then I have no problem going by them at speed. First, if I slow down, the wake will be worse. Second, It IS a channel.
Now, if I see someone in a kyak, or off the side of the channel fishing, I try to give as much space on the opposite side of the channel as I can if there is no oncoming traffic.
If they are in the channel and no rods are up or anchor ropes out, stop and see if they need assistance. They could be broke down, ot they may just be new boaters if not. That is the time to politeley tell them that they are in a channel and it is illegal to block it....
I have fished the econfina in the river in a john boat, and I had no problem with people going at speed out the channel. I knew where I was and also accepted the fact that boats would be going by. HOWEVER, I was not in the middle of the channel either....

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

Re: anchored on channel
Yea , this weekend we came in trying to get to the weigh in and we encountered a guy in a Dixon boat with a go devil. He had every right to be in the channel as he was running. Just cant for the life of me understand why he wouldnt move over and let folks go by. He nearly got soaked because I couldnt let off , nor could the other boats behind and in front of me because we had to get over into the shallower water to go by. Courtesy goes along way when boating folks. Like everything else, always try to give more than you recieve!!

If you are anchored in the channel, FWC will pull up and have you move.
They made me move at St Marks when we were anchored out on a bouy marker chumming for cobia. We had been there a few hours and the tide change had moved us about 10 feet inside the marker. I'm pretty sure he told me it was illegal to anchor in the channel.

BB, we saw that guys too. Was his boat cutting off every 5 minutes when you were behind him too? We saw him and he was having a tough time keeping it running....BAD BEHAVIOR wrote:Yea , this weekend we came in trying to get to the weigh in and we encountered a guy in a Dixon boat with a go devil.
