Congrats! Never in my life have I seen a trout that big in person. It was well worth the money just to see that fish, and it was thin. In the Spring that fish would have been close to 10lbs. Truly an amazing stringer.

Great trout, Jr. Dice…but the story is better.

Saturday night, 9:30 p.m. - My wife informs me that she won’t be fishing the next morning. We have a ten month old baby who’d come down with a runny nose and she didn't want to be away from her. I understood, but still really wanted to fish the tournament. I asked / told her, “Let me make one phone call and try to get a partner.” JR and I had spoken earlier in the week and he was still unsure if he was going to fish the Seatrout tournament.

9:45 p.m. I called JR and left a message.

10:30 p.m. The Diceman calls back and it's game on. Jr. says, "Call me in the morning when you get to Jerry's to wake me up."

Sunday, 4:15 a.m. I wake up ready to fish.

5 a.m. - I get to Jerry's. to find the store closed and the usual suspects standing around. :smt009 .

5:30 a.m. - I paid the entry fee and headed to the ramp. I called Jr...no answer…tried again…no answer…after the 12th call, I get a groggy, “Hello?”. I replied, “Get your azz out of bed.”

6:20 a.m. - On the water at the Aucilla. (that's the only location I'm giving). Started fishing, but the bite was slow early.

9:00. a.m. - First fish in the boat. For the next 2 hours we had action. Blues, Reds, Jacks, and the biggest Sailcat I've ever seen. With only a 17" in the boat, Jr. lands a 24.5" trout.

10:30 a.m. - I'm throwing off the back of the boat. I hear a strike on Jr.'s plug, "Oh my God, what a trout," but she missed. Two twiches later and a bomb goes off in the water. The fish comes out of the water, the head is massive and the body is bigger. :smt007 He gets it to the side of the boat quickly. I’m ready and waiting with the net. I have the net in the water and try to net it tail first and the fish promptly jumps out. I almost have a massive heart attack. Jr. spins her around and I scoop her up, head first this time. I lay the netted fish in the bottom of the boat and wouldn't you know, the hook slides out of her mouth. She goes straight in the live well, no measurements taken. We jump around like little girls for a while and drink a celebratory cold  We fished for two more hours with nothing doing. I spend most of those two hours bugging Jr, "C’mon man, let’s measure it.” The response I got was, "No, leave it alone." Finally, he says "you catch the last keeper and you can measure it." An hour later an 18” fish hits my plug and goes in the boat. It’s time to measure the beast! Pull the pig out and lay her on the golden rule… OH MY GOD! It's 30"!!! Many more high fives.

3:30 p.m.- We laid low at the weigh-in and waited until two teams were left to weigh. The fish is sitting in the bottom of the cooler. We pull out our second biggest trout and everyone goes, “That’s a nice fish!” I turn to Casey and say, “That’s not even the big one.” We pull out the beast and the crowd goes wild.

It was the biggest trout most people at the weigh-in had ever seen, including myself. 30" long and 7.85lbs.

By the way it was “Off The Chain!”
