I am guilty too! I think I wore my kill switch maybe once. This makes me stop and think, thats for sure! When I ride the jet ski, I always wear the kill switch. I think if I got one for the boat that fit on my wrist like the jet ski kill switch, I would wear it more regularly. The one on the boat is supposed to clip on and I have not been able to find a place to clip it. I guess that is just an excuse. Like everyone else, I vow to do better.

I too can relate a similar story. My brother, while away at school in TN, was running his 17' BW Outrage in one of the lakes up there. After running for wuite sometime with no problems and cruising around 25-30 mph, the steering cable snapped and slammed the prop to one side, throwing him 30-50' away from the boat, but not before he slammed into the throttle and broke it off, at full tilt.

He laid there in the water watching the boat go in circles for the next several minutes until someone came and picked him up, not too much worse for the wear. The Fish and Game, or equivalent thereof was called and responded. They too watched the boat continue in circles until the foot finally hit a rock near the shoreline and stalled out, three hours later! How miserable an afternoon that must have been.

Makes you realize that those safety features aren't just for stupidity and carelessness, but also for true accidents.
