I have always used Fireline on my spinning reels, never on baitcasting reels. You are right Koenig, it would be hard to pick out.........

Nah...it's no big deal. You fellas got to get past that mess. The key is to use the heavier lb. test braids. Nothing below 20#.

It's ABEC not APEC

And they do not have either - they have HPCR (high precision corrosion resistant) bearings from their website.

I had to spool it myself....No problem though...I like it..took an old spoon and got out in back yard and found out how good it casts... I did get a pretty good deal on the reel though....Which I wont get into !

Do all the braid manufacturers use the same numbering scale? Is PowerPro #20 the same as Strein #20?

I have to go with Trouttrent on the reel deal. All I used to throw was Shimano, Curado's and Chronarch's, but I got tired of them not holding up to the salt water... I would buy one and have it freeze up on me in 6mths (yes, I know you need to rinse with fresh water). I decided to switch brands, and gave the Revo a shot and I am completely satisfied with its performance.

As far as braid goes, I also will only fish it on a Spinning outfit. My partner Bryce, uses it on his baitcasters but the line tends to snap when casting. This usually happens 4 to 5 times during the day. I think that the braid eats into itself on the spool..... it's like casting as hard as you can with the reel not on release mode. After witnessing this happen numerous times, I have decided to stick with my Berkley Big Game mono. Have you had this happen to you Birddog????? Please say no, so I can give my buddy hell.

Eric, I'm puzzled by your statement that your shimano reels have not held up in saltwater. I'm still using shimano reels that have been used in saltwater for 8 years or more. In fact, I have 2 shimano reels that I purchased in 1986 that saw many days in the salt and are still going strong.

My cleaning process is simple. I rinse the reels off with the hose after each trip. After they dry, I spray Reel Magic into the reels through the drain holes on the back of the reel casing. About every 4-5 trips, I'll break the reel down and degrease them with paint thinner and a tooth brush. Let 'em dry. Then reassemble the reels using very little grease and oiling the bearings with yellow label Rocket Fuel. EZPZ.
