Re: Fishing St Marks
Those bars in between the mouth and the fort of the St Marks have lots of fish on them, especially at the mouth. Us kayakers fish convenience and "Where the fish are" so we don't paddle over there if we can find them closer. I would fish the St Marks River Oyster bats within 1/4 mile of the mouth and by the way. The ocean is great therapy. Keep your wife active and her mind on them fishes. Its a good thing your doing.

I caught one trout -- a nice one, over 20 inches -- on an oyster bar about a 1/4 off the mouth of the St. Marks River. This was on Dec. 20.
That's all I caught, though. But at least there is one of them out there on the flats.

Were you out there the day after christmas. I saw a couple new skeeters in the river down by the lighthouse.Chill-N-Grill wrote:I have a bay boat and I am nervous about getting to shallow.
I have a 15 year mortgage on it.
Don't want to beach it or hit an oyster bar.
Is the trout in any deeper water.
Maybe around 4 or 5 feet.

ST. MARKS IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR A BAY BOAT. BUT THE OCHLOCKNEE RIVER NEAR PANACEA WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE FOR A BAY BOAT. LOTS OF RUNNING ROOM AND DEEP WATER, OYSTER BARS, MUD FLATS, DOCKS, AND DONT FORGET THE BRIDGE. WHEN IT GETS REAL COLD YOU CAN UP RIVER FOREVER IN A BAY BOAT. LOT OF AREA TO COVER BUT ONCE YOU FIND SOME HOT SPOTS THEY WILL USALLY PRODUCE.
I WILL EVEN GIVE YOU A GOOD SPOT. CAUGHT EVERYTING IN THIS SPOT IN GOOD NUMBERS, MY DESCRIPTION IS FROM 15 YEARS AGO OR BETTER.
OCEAN SIDE OF BRIDGE, MAYBE 1/2 MILE OUT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RIVER JUST PAST WHAT WAS TRADE WINDS DOCK THERE IS AN OYSTER BAR WITH OR WAS WITH A MARKER (NUMBER 24 I BELIEVE) FISH BETWEEN THAT MARKER AND OYSTER BAR AND HOLD ON.
I WOULD BET THAT I CAUGHT MORE FISH IN THAT ONE HOLE AS A KID FISHING WITH MY DAD, THAN I HAVE MY WHOLE ADULT LIFE. ALL WERE CAUGHT ON A CORK WITH SHRIMP OR SHRIMP ON THE BOTTOM. SOUNDS LIKE I NEED TO CHUNK THE HIGH TECH CRAP I AM FISHING WITH AND GET BACK TO THE BASICS.

Re: Fishing St Marks
Thanks for the tips guys. You all have been a great help. Wife is doing great, she had her first radiation treatment today. She said it was way better than the chemo. It only made her a little tired. She's ready to go fishing as soon as possible.....
