It won't get hot enough inside to damage the rod and reels if that is what you are talking about. Think about all the stuff people keep in toolboxes in their trucks, its the same thing.

I don't plan on leaving them in there very long unattended. I figure it will get pretty hot inside if it sits out very long without the truck moving, so being that this is a "one off" type deal I figure I will need to put a small clamshell vent on the front and one on the botom of the box to vent it somewhat.

And breaking the window out and taking the rods will much easier than prying the roof rack off.

Thule makes something similar but I like that rig. Thats pretty sweet. Nice setup Mills.

In North Carolina just about every truck has one of these.

30 years ago every truck on SGI had one of those.

I tried straping them down on the roof rack one time. I worried the whole trip about breaking a rod at highway speeds.

I think what my dad is referring to is the fly line itself. I know that my fly line warning states "do not expose to excessive heat".. Therefore will the box build up enough heat when parked in the sun to damage the fly line? Great looking rig however..

My mistake! I was thinking about the rod and reel. I have no experience with fly line. Thanks for the information because I'll need to figure that out.

Have you seen an actual temp. listed any where?

Flanders,
It's pretty well the same thing when leaving a rod in a closed up car in a parking lot. About the worst that can happen is the glue that holds the tip top on might melt and need to be reset before you use it.
Looks great to me and I'm sure it'll see much use.

J/K - Nice rod rack BH
Yeah, the same way anyone with an adjustable wrench could make off with a boat, motor and trailer that is "locked" to a trailer ball. Anything can be stolen.

Ask Ashley about that.
