LC, I was part of the field trials for freshwater fishbites just as Wevans. Tried all the same flavors he mentioned. Wouldn't be reporting on a product if I hadn't used the product as the maker intended.
That's why I said "Catfish Fishbites."

csm,
Hold on! I'm getting the message that your trials, along with WV, were part of what Fishbites meant when it said their product doesn't work very well in freshwater, and that they were working on developing it for freshwater, i.e., catfish, bream, etc.
I made no reference to you, or anyone else, using saltwater Fishbites formulas in freshwater. If you peruse their site, it's plain to not have this confusion! They mentioned they do lots of develomental projects and have numerous formulas. I would, say, that they're still working on a freshwater formula for several species, but haven't come-up with a formula that works, yet. This is consistent with what you and WV, say!
Now, if they're selling, catfish Fishbites, knowing their testing showed it doesn't work, I'd be pizzed at them. Do you know they do this?

I have to agree with Tom. FB has worked for me. I travel the state and I have to say if I get a couple of hours - the fishing pole, tackle box, and fishbites are in the back seat. They are just damn convenient as opposed to looking for fresh bait and all that goes along with it.

I have been using the large shrimp and crab sheets, cutting tiny pieces for a sabiki rig, and catching pinfish with relative ease. The bait stays on. I have also caught a gator trout on the sabiki with FB when my intention was to catch pins. A very good surprise. I have used them to tip grubs with better success than non tipped.

I like the stuff. Not sure of "if they are biting, they are biting" idea. Makes sense that if they are hungry, they are hungry. I will try with and without FB's my next rip out. But FB's are versatile, clean, lightweight, won't skunk my beer, don't scare the kids.

No I don't I have any monetary gain from this post. I just like the stuff.

Dang it db. You sold me on the "stuff."  I'm gonna buy some and try it again on the flats. :o
Just don't want no Catfish FB for the river right now if ya'll don't mind.

TK,
DOA could give me a $1000 and all the free tackle I wanted and I wouldn't recommend them because I don't catch fish on them.
Not meaning any disrespect, but it stretches my imagination to consider that you, "don't catch fish on them!" This is just outright bazaar for me to understand! Is it a joke? A set-up for a joke, or what?
I, obviously, don't know you, but my impression is that you seem to be a first class fisherman and know tons of good, accurate stuff about fishing and everyone on your site, BBF, and FS NWF forums regard you as fisherman, par excel lance!
Are you going to give me a, gottcha?
I have absolutely no problem with your praise of Fishbites -- I totally agree.
And, I would believe you saying, you don't catch fish on DOA shrimp, but it's hard for me to imagine even a first-time-to-fish kid, not catching trout on a DOA shrimp, much less a first-class fisherman, like you! I'm probably not more than a poor to average fisherman, and I've caught trout the first time I used a 1/4 oz. DOA shrimp, until I was exhausted (only brought back 2 gut-hooked trout to eat). Then I bought the larger ½ oz. for the next trip and it cut-down on the smaller sized fish, but I still caught 'em, 'till I ached and the bigger fish began to start fraying my line!
I don't bother to jig & grub anymore (the best grubs for me always have had red on them and red drives pinfish crazy and they go at the grubs like pirana) but the, other than red tailed DOA's, catch as many trout as the red tailed ones and to avoid the pinfish-chomp, I avoid the red.
The only thing I can think of, is that you retrieve a DOA shrimp like a jig and grub. That's not the most productive way! They need to be fished very slowly and although they work O.K. on a CT, they're better producers on a free line, but you'll need to get a very long, 7.5' - 8' light action rod to throw 'em far enough as you would a CT & 1/4 oz. jig & grub. Rods like this are difficult to find, but they're out there.
There's an even more productive DOA method and I'll let someone else post it!

Well I'am with Tom on this one. Have caught plenty of fish on the fishbites, but have not caught squat, didily, nothing, on DOA. And I do have some.

Hey ya'll, I have fished them quite a bit. I did catch a trout on a DOA one time.
I have a pile of them in the bottom of my tackle box, rotting away. Where I threw them for a while, then tossed them into never, never land in the bottom of my box. :o
One day I'll learn to fish em right.

I use a DOA for little while everytime I Trout fish. I have high hopes that I will catch a fish on one someday. That Mark Nichols seems like a nice guy.

wv, ds, csm & k,
Gottcha!
I've never caught anything on them either!
(Well, that's 4 less to be dwindling the trout population! Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the best-est and clever-est fisherman of all!)
csm, I wouldn't be wasting my time with that, phony stink bait -- it's a waste of your time, well, maybe it's O.K. for pinfish! And it's expensive as hell, too!
(30 years as a CIA agent, is paying off for me in the flats!
Will Chalk, also, fall for my misinformation scheme? Hope, so!
Now, just how am I to deal with TS -- awh, he's going to side with the others who are his buddies -- but, then, too, he's so good, he's probably playing my game to get them to not use those DOA's because, unlike him, or me, the others just chunk and pull and are so much in a habit of doing it like they have always done it, they'd never think of using a finesse tactic! Yeah! Mo fish fo me! Now how am I going to deal with TK?)

I have caught loads of trout, on nothing but DOA,s in various colours.
They have also put a few other species on the bank, as well.
Ask Old (Mr Trout) Dog about them.

Before I make any other comments about Fishbites, are they BBF Sponsors ?

Cranfield, haven't you noticed the "fishbites" logo at the top of the page?

I can't comment on the fishbites, cause I don't fish with no stink'n bait.

It seems I have become an average fisherman though, maybe a below average fisherman cause I have never caught a thing on a DOA. Some folks slay trout with them....Some folks laugh at my trout spin (secret weapon), though on occasion they ask to borrow one once I limit out and they have not caught sheet.......I think LC needs a good whacking :o Image

Cran,
No, no! DOA's are too expensive and they don't catch trout!
OD was just messing with your head. When you weren't looking, he exchanged the DOA for a live shrimp. It's all a stage trick he learned
years ago! He's actually one of the best illusionist in the U.S. Next time you see him, have him to show you how he makes a Jumbo Jet disappear!

Chalk,
And now you got 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 and one, spywares on your PC. Even I can track everything you do from now on! Expect to hear from the FBI, CIA, IRS, and AAAAn-ald, from now on!
When'd you start to fish? I heard you were still trying to find your way to the mouth of Ickky! You gotta take a right when you leave the launch ramp!
