Those are resident fish in the Wakulla. Most are small, around 30 pounds.

I followed a school of tarpon late last spring on my kayak for like a mile. I threw every artificial in my tacklebox with no luck. I've caught them with a guide down in Tampa before using live bait.

This year I hope to get into them again, but this time I want to be more prepared. I'm sure they'll hit a pinfish, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what makes the best live bait for tarpon? Mullet? Crabs maybe?

the only ones i ever caught were free lining live shrimp to them weightless. they would not take the shrip with weight on it. that was in melbourne and they were little baby tarpon.
the ones this past weekend wouldnt take shrimp OR live ladyfish.... or any other artificial i threw at them.
it was exciting though.
