What have you forgot?

left the lifejackets one time...had to head to the store. now we use a list. list looks like this. it has a lot of items on it, but we don't take them all every trip. just easier to cross them off as you go through it than try to remember what may not be on the list. The clothes are for overnight trips or are also not a bad idea with Florida summer rain showers. also the flippers, snorkels, etc are for scalloping trips. we just found it best to put everything on one list. by the way, we still forget things.

Some one already mentioned it but again won't hurt... boat key. And then there is the experience where your feeling of having to deal with a flat on the trailer is suddenly over powered by the WHATA YA MEAN WE DON'T HAVE A SPARE??

ReelCowboy - my 10 year son (fishing partner) helped me with the list. Apparently, he thought it was necessary.

My fishing buddy wanted his wife to go with us once. We were already 20 miles out when she asked if he had renewed her fishing license. He said it was her responsiblity and it was dumb to leave without checking it. Almost had to call FWC on a domestic at sea.

I've left the paddle at home and my rods. i've also left my rods at the boat ramp.

But I bet the NUMBER 1 item left at home by all boaters is the ......................................plug. And thats why everyone has several plugs scattered around their boat.

What have I forgot?

Which time?

Left from work this afternoon to some property my family owns thinking I'd maybe shoot a deer or hog if I saw one.

Got there; unlocked and opened the gate, drove through, stopped and closed the gate, pulled on up into the camp, shut the car off and walked around to the back to gear up. The bag with my gloves, vest, etc. and, just slightly more important, my F'n .30/30 bullets; was still in my F'n bedroom closet back at the F'n house!!

Usually the forgotten item is some piddly little thing I can get along without. But not today; and not the e-e-early morning I towed my canoe behind my bike to Lower Bridge. Got there to discover my paddle and pushpole were still on the porch. Glad that was only a Lower Bridge trip and not a Lighthouse trip.

There was also the time I was loading up in the dark coming in from fishing. Left my brand new (at the time), first time used on the water, GPS at the take out point. Luckily that was on private property at Live Oak Island and not at a public ramp. I got that back.

There was also the time I was loading up in the dark coming in from fishing. Forgot to tie my pushpole down in the canoe and left it laying on the trailer. We parted company a couple miles up the road. Got that back too, after a few days of it laying cold and lonely on the side of the highway.

A few years ago, I forgot my fishing license and the FWCC checked us on the way back into Carrabelle. I told the officer where it was (on the counter, I had cleaned out my wallet the night before) and that I would be glad to bring it to him the next day. He said don't worry about it and gave me a warning.

Two years ago, my wife and I were fishing out at SGI on the bay when we saw the FWCC checking boats. My wife asked if I had renewed her license and I told her that I had not. We immediately called the "over the phone service" from our boat and got a new license number. I had to tell the misses to keep the noise down as she reread the number back to the operator and the FWCC officers were within earshot. The license number was written in lipstick on the back of her old license. The FWCC officer just gave us a wry smile when he checked us out.

It would be much easier for me to list what I have not forgotten over the years.

I have consistently showed up with a boat when it was my responsibility to bring one. I will not say that the boat always ran when we got to the fishing hole.

I have consistently showed up with my clothes. Never fished naked, however, I have once fished in suit pants, dress shirt and nice shoes.

I have forgot my fishfinder and GPS 1 time. Then there was the time I forgot 1 specific rock in the Ecofina river just before the no wake zone coming in, even after my partner had just said,"we hit a rock here last time we settled down on lowe tide" and I pulled out of the throttle anyway. Now having to send by new prop back to Powertech to fix a few blades. Also gonna add a Porter rock guard now.

Things I've left at home:
I've forgotten my kayak paddle, a stringer, bait, ice, hooks, leader, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, jacket, towels, pliers, fuel tanks, batteries, ............. pretty much everything.

Things I forgot to do:
I've forgottent to put the plug in before I back the boat down, forgotten to clamp the hitch to the trailer ball before I hit the highway, forgotten how my stomache can be and ate an omelette with hot salsa and hot sausage in it along with several cups of coffe, forgotten to check the tides to make sure I can make it back in. Several years ago I had a few too many and forgot which ramp I had put in at. Early last Spring I had a big ole gator charge me in my kayak, I temporarily forgot how to control my bowels.

Fishing is always an adventure. You can't be too prepared.
