First off - congrats. I have two girls and tI can not imagine where I'd be without them. Like the others have stated, you'll come around on the bag thing. We bought a black baby backpack from landsend and used it. Wife used it as a baby bag and purse and I could carry it too. You will quickly learn that the color of the bag is your least concern and that looking cool is not in the bag, but in time with your kid. It seems just like yesterday that I was telling everyone how I would not do this or that and now am dancing, having tea, watching Hanna Montana, going to Talyor Swift concerts and playing dress up. We also have them out hunting and fishing. First time teh oldest one went to teh dove field, she would retrive the birds and was playing "barbie' witht eh dead birds. Enjoy it, as much as I hate to say it, the times go quickly. My 9 year old came home from school a few months back complaining that LaKeithio was pushing her to be his girlfriend.

Barhopr wrote:you wont be toteing around any tackle bag my friend. The first 2-3 months you'll be scarred to take either of your hands off of the little one for fear of dropping her. You need a bag you can get into and find what you need with one hand. It'll need room for a big container of powdered formula, If you go that direction, and room for a big ass box of wipes. I suggest you go down to the Army/Navy supply store and get a surplus ruck sack. Good luck, your going to need it because your wife will more than likey hand you what ever she wants you to carry and you'd best look happy about it.
Most accurate words spoken on this thread yet. Our Grace is now almost 2 1/2 and I had already forgotten about the wide-open space needed for the formula, powder, wipes, etc... not that we're not still using the bag but the formula has been replaced with Baby Goldfish crackers and other tasty treats! :lick: :D

And no offense to those who may have avoided changing diapers, but as old-school as my values are in many ways, I much prefer quickly changing a smelly diaper than I do having that scent around any longer than necessary.

Bman, here's a training video that will help let you know what's in store...

You could take the route my FIL did with my wife and her brother. I'll preface this story by giving a little background info on my FIL. He is a Nam vet that served in the Navy doing ordinance desposal and in the end a small arms instruction. He saw his fair share of what Nam had the offer in the late 60's add to that has no problem being elbow deep in guts while cleaning a deer, but put him in front of a newborn with mud butt armed with a diaper and a wash cloth he will throw up like a freshman at his first kegger. I think he has changed maybe 2 diapers in his life. The second one was with one of our kids a few years ago and I think he had vertigo for a week afterwards. Your wife will probably not want to have to clean up your vommit along with your newborns mess and will most likely not let you even be in the same room when changing is needed.

We have a 2.5 year old girl and it is an earth shaking, life changing event to have one. Best thing that ever happened to my wife and I. First 10 weeks or so was what I imagine boot camp would be like - awake every 2 to 3 hours. Then you wake up one morning and realize she slept through the night.

A friend that has a daughter shared this with me - "when you have a boy, you have one pecker to worry about, when you have a girl, you worry about all of them".

Regarding the diapers - I thought it was interesting how nature eases you into that one. For the first few weeks they don't smell all that bad, then when the baby starts eating more normal types of food, the smell ratchets up dramatically. Of course by that point you are an old hand at changing them.

Good luck and hope everything goes well for you and your family.
