Re: Grouper
I don't mean to sound like a whiner, but it is starting to get a little ridiculous.
I can only use certain tackle on certain types of fish along with specific equipment. (more $$)
Two stroke engines are being phased out because of pollution. (more $$)
Ethanol is supposed to be our emissions saviour, but I have to buy additives and fuel line and filters. (more$$)
The great thing is, my fishing licence cost has not gone up and is still a pretty good bargain, but why buy a licence if I cannot feed myself or my family with a day's harvest?
The price of fish has gone up to about $50 a pound on my boat.
Just sayin'

Very good point, it is the same with hunting, no way you can justify the expense of the fish or wild game.
Take a kid hunting or fishing and you will be rewarded.

These rules take effect July 1.
The Commission deferred final action until November on a proposed rule that would establish three regional management areas for red drum, raise the daily recreational bag limit for red drum from one fish to two in Northeast and Northwest Florida, create a statewide eight-fish vessel limit for red drum, and modify the red drum off-the-water possession limit and red drum transport provisions. Commissioners want to review the results of an FWC red drum stock assessment, which will be finalized this summer.
In other marine fisheries action, Commissioners approved conditional recreational amberjack and gag grouper harvest season rules for Gulf of Mexico state waters that would be consistent with pending rules in Gulf federal waters. The rules would establish an annual June 1 through July 31 closed recreational harvest season for amberjack in Gulf state waters.
The rules would also create a 2011 closed gag grouper recreational harvest season in Gulf state waters, except Monroe County waters, from June 1 through the end of this year; however, there would be an open gag grouper recreational harvest season in these waters from Sept. 16 through Nov. 15 this year only. These harvest season rules are contingent upon federal approval of Gulf amberjack and gag grouper harvest season rules

Re: Grouper
In my opinion, two redfish a day isn't a back-breaker when you consider commercial netters use to bring in hundreds, even thousands of redfish a day, and we still caught fish recreationally. Sunday I saw easily 200 redfish in a single school while fishing with Gary Droze in the St. Marks NWR. The population in our part of paradise looks good. And if you don't want to keep 2, don't. But I think it will bring in more customers for guides and really not hurt the population. Don't forget...too many fish are as bad as too few fish. If there's not enough food to support them, the fish will go elsewhere. Worry more about the bandit mullet netters that are drying up the forage fish supply.

I think I will impose a one redfish a day per person limit on my boat until I have it proved otherwise. It is a maximum allowed, not a minimum acceptable!
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?
