MudDucker, I understand your opinion and trust you understand mine. We disagree. It happens. Often. Ask my wife. But such differences and the freedom to discuss them are at the foundation of this country. We are very lucky to have the ability to do so and must never forget that.
One of these days I'll buy you a beer, but you have to promise to not throw the bottle at me.

I AGREE WITH YOU THAT THERE WERE FOLKS WHO WANTED TO AND DID ABUSE THE SYSTEM FOR ALL THE MONEY THEY COULD. BUT PLEASE DON'T CONDEMN THE ENTIRE CITY FOR THE ACTIONS OF THOSE CRIMINALS. THERE ARE MANY KIND AND DECENT PEOPLE WHO LOST EVERYTHING, PLAYED BY THE RULES, AND ARE SLOWLY RECOVERING.

From Wakulla County to N.O., man we took a left hand turn somewhere......
Here's my facts: I personally am sick and dang tired of the politicians taking my money and using it as "they" see fit, not for what we their constituents see as important, but rather what they see as important. They just passed mandatory garbage collection to the tune of nearly $200 a year, with one single waste hauler. As stated earlier in this thread, I live close enough to the transfer station that I take my own garbage and recyclables to the transfer station. Now, I will pay nearly $100 more a year for this "service". But the real kicker to me is this: They are putting local businessmen in the waste hauling business out of work. Who in the heck do they think pays the taxes, employees the locals, and helps support this community? The waste hauler from another area or the local waste haulers. Just to be clear, I am by no means associated with any of the haulers, etc, as stated above, I take my own waste, but it truly makes me irate to know that the Wakulla County Commissioners voted to basically kill several local businesses.
My other fact, I am tired of sorry people taking advantage of "the system", which in turn causes those Americans that are busting their humps making a living and trying to survive, to have to pay more and more and more and more, so others can do less, and less, and less, while they receive more and more.........
I got back in town last night and on the front of the Wakulla News was an article indicating the the Parks and Rec Director was being reprimanded for a laundry list of things. This gentleman also happens to be a School Board member. To be honest, I have never heard a bad thing about the fella until this article. But, even if half of what the article advises he is being reprimanded for is actually true, it makes me wonder about his ability to set the direction of the educational system here in Wakulla, as a school board member. Couple this fella with the other school board fella that had a serious financial judgement against him and it truly concerns me that our children don't have the right folks representing them on the School Board.
Alright, I'm through venting for now. Interest rates are up and the stock market is down, your gonna get mugged if you go downtown................. Jr. nailed it back in the day.

Oh I have no problem with each of us having our opinions and I hate the fact that your family suffered due to this tragedy. There is nothing personal in this to me other than being a taxpayer having my pocket picked. I promise, no beer bottle will be aimed at your head ... all other body parts are optional!Gumbo wrote:MudDucker, I understand your opinion and trust you understand mine. We disagree. It happens. Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Hey Scoop - This garbage tax apply to all properties or just homestead properties? I've got a weekend/vacation "cabin" (not fancy) at Live Oak Island. I barely generate 2 kitchen bags of trash (not counting beer boxes/cans/bottles) even if I can stay for a week. At the current $2.00 fee for household drop off at the facility I would have to take my trash 1 piece at a time three times a day to pay $200.00 in a year. My last three trips I just brought it all back to my house in Ponte Vedra and put it in my empty can here.
Help out by posting some details so I can become more informed about "Willkillya" Co. politics.

If it's anything like the one here in Taylor, you get charged a flat fee for each liveable structure, homestead or not, whether it be a house, mobile home, RV, etc........... The "Solid Waste Tax" has been a constant source of anger and frustration to Taylor County tax-payers for years now.sosprey wrote:Hey Scoop - This garbage tax apply to all properties or just homestead properties? Honestly, I do not know at this time, however, I have to assume that it will apply to each liveable structure. If I hear more definitive details, I will let you know. I hate to hear that you will be forced to pay another "hidden tax". Although I am not in your same shoes as for the amount of waste you generate, I am not too far off and I live here full time. I live less than a mile from the transfer station and we pay on average $2 a week for the waste we take to the transfer station. That's only $104 a year. Now I will have to pay $196 and will have to work around someone else's schedule for picking up my garbage. Of course, the real kicker for me is the fact that our County Commission voted this in, which caused other small businesses to be forced out of business.
