I have a 15/42 jon.

And 15 other boats!

Sold my Jeep last week so there is room in the shop for more boats.

I was off in law school and my old Dad had to have heart by-pass surgery. When I got home that spring, he had purchased a fisher 14/42 with a 25 hp mercury tiller steer on it. The first place we took it out of was the Icky. He wanted to be the admiral at first that day, but the tiller steer wore him out, so I took over. We never got into trouble with that boat and we fished out of it a good bit on the gulf, however, I was never comfortable in that boat on the gulf. Rivers and creeks, fine, but open gulf, not so much. The next summer, I took some of my summer work earnings and bought a fisher 16/60 netter at Perry, Ga. for near nothing. Removed the movable bench seats and put in pylon seats. Moved the 25 over to it and installed stick steering. Dad didn't know what was going on and gave me a hard time about not going fishing until I called him one Thursday and told him to have his butt and his gear ready at 5AM Saturday morning sharp and I would be by to get him. He was stunned when I pulled up. Put him in the captains seat and the stick steering made all the difference. He and I fished all over the gulf with that boat and I felt a LOT more comfortable in it. When the waves get up, that extra 2 foot can make an amazing difference. Still watched the weather. I watch the weather with my 24 old proline as well. I still have those two boats, although both are in dry dock right now for refitting.

First boat the Williams Boys had was a 12 foot boat and my Dad, brother, and I used to crush fish in that thing. Eventually my Dad upgraded to a 15 foot Alumacraft and we have caught tons of fish in it for years and continue to do so. We launch at Lighthouse mostly but also Shell Point, Wakulla Beach, Panacea, Lanark, and a few others. Just have to watch the forecast and know your limitations. John boats will float super shallow as well. Always gets my blood boiling when I see a John boat poling an area I can't even float in in my Mitzi. Good luck!

I have fished out my 14 grizzly now for a couple years and would not trade her for world. This one boat I will never get rid of, I like the fact I can go just about anywhere I wanna go with her. Yes you have to watch the forecast pretty good for sure when your gonna hit the gulf but usually pretty safe if you stay close
