Caught some nice Reds this weekend! One was 27"s on the money and weighed 7.8lbs ! Perfect fish. Caught two over slots 28"s on Sunday. After the warm weather this week I anticipate a very strong weight winning this weekends tournament.
Well, I suspected that some hunters would climb down from their tree stands to respond. Don't shoot me. I respect your views, but I think the reverse could said about "year round hunters", rather than year round fisherman.
Don't you think a fella that hunts, tracks, or stalks prey year round, would be more knowledgeable/successful than someone who stops all his hunting; then parks his equipment & his gear, for 4 months, to go fishing?
As for fishing; will:
1) The bilge pump
2) The live well pump
3) The running lights
4) The transducer
5) The plug on the back of the recorder
6) The trailer bearings
7) The "mike" on the radio
And another 5-10 items.
Will All of them work just fine on the first 3-4 trips?
Will your brain quickly realize when you run NE, latitude decreases & longitude decreases?
Will your brain quickly realize when you run NW, latitude decreases & longitude increases?
Will the sand bar still be in the same place that it was 3-4 months?
Will the sand bar still have 3' of water at high tide?
It takes time to re-adjust to these things. They can certainly affect your first 2-3 fishing trips
I have known and fished with many avid hunters and avid fishermen. I have never been a hunter. I understand the "meat" thing. I know leases cost money; hunting camps too, but you will have more success fishing with a fella who fishes 12 months a year. I suspect the same can said about year round hunters......... or woodsman.
I think it is relative Ifish. I am a bird hunter and I bet I fish more during hunting season than most did. I fished every weekend it wasn't nasty. You can fish on Saturday and shoot dove Sunday afternoon. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. To say hunting takes away from fishing is no more true than kids soccer practice etc.taking away from fishing. I'd be willing to bet my hunting kept me off the water less than someone with a new baby.
Catholic girl pray for me, you’re my only hope for heaven
Yes, Salty Gator, you are right about that. Many things can interrupt life's routine. A colonoscopy exam, followed by some bad news, will certainly keep you off the water for at least 2,3, or 4 months.
I've known many hunters that get wrapped up in hunting, with time, money, and equipment; they feel obligated to hunt. Many of them involve leases out of state & out of state licenses, too. Some even hunt out west and then repeatedly hunt a lease that is 200-600 mi away. Their boats sit from mid Sept until mid Feb, which is 4-5 months without the first thought of fishing.
Those are the fellas I was thinking about. Hats off to the duck hunter on Saturday morning who is catching a mess of fish Sunday afternoon. He never skips a beat. Tires seldom dry rot on his boat!!
Good luck Salty Gator...... go ahead and unload some bird shot into one of those big gar........ I for one, will call it fishin!
