You do have to have a permit to stay on Rock Island. The link can be found under Florida canoe trails. Not a great time of year for this as the no seeums will run you off the island.

Thanks everyone, I've gotten some great ideas and learned a lil too. Not gonna try the island, don't think chase ready for that. Would like to try hickory but worried about having enough water getting in and out. But a place I am gonna go explore more. As of now this is the plans depending on weather and all.

There is also a nice county campground on 98 where 98 crosses the St. Marks river. There is a ramp right next to it or you can leave the boat on the trailer and there is a nice big country ramp at St. Marks. We were going to stay there with the Boy Scouts to scallop once, but the park flooded just before we were to arrive.

Well just doing an update on our trip. Got down to econfina resort around 10, (very nice people) set up camp and went out around 11. Wind kept me very close to the river and the creeks. We only caught 2 pup reds and picked those up just as we were coming in. Monday no better, hit the water about 830 back in at 11. 3 pinfish and 1 lil flounder. Fishing was very tough and wind keep me from going out on flats. Weather was awesome tho and there where NO BUGS!! Could not believe it. Cooked out dinner over a fire and made some s'mores and met some really nice people in the park. Well fishing was not good, weather was great( other than wind)but my son said he had a great time and asked when we were going back and that's pretty much all that mattered to me. Thanks again everyone for the help and look forward to some more trips.

I can remember days like that with my 3 sons my young one is now 41 we would camp at lake bridge port in Texas when we were duck hunting to me that is the best time to camp , no bugs
