Thought you might be messin with him. I built about 20 rods on a home made set of V stands with a thread tensioner made out of 1x4 before I bought my wrapper. Would probably still be using the home made stuff if it wasn't for an excellent deal I got. Still use the original V stands with a home made drying motor set up.
Nathan, you've gone further than I have. The last two I built, I took them to a friend to have the guides coated and turn the rods. I had a home made rig to turn rods using an electric drill. It's much less trouble to take them to my friend. My stand is also home made, with a thread tensioner made out of a spring and a couple of finish washers with a screw through them.
I would like to see your setup some time. I still repair my own rods, and, from time to time, have the urge to rebuild one.
Your welcome to see it anytime. I'm on W Pensacola St. here in Tallahassee. Applying finish to a 7', 6-12#, Rainshadow spinning rod for myself right now. Haven't done a whole lot of building since moving over here in August, but plan to change that between now and Christmas. Have several Christmas gifts for friends and family to build.
