Go by a farm supply (Gramlin's, etc.) probably should call first and see if they carry hog rings. They come in various sizes and are made for placement in the hog's nose to discourage root'n They will clamp together and form a ring to hold two pieces of hardware cloth together. They will last longer than the trap.

I used to use reinforced chicken wire (has a plastic coating on it). I Rolled the wire up into a cylinder, and made a cone going into each end. The wire was black, and it always worked great. To attach the ends, I would just cut the wire so that it had little nubs poking out, and I just wrapped them around the edge of the main part of the trap. I'd do the door the same way. That way you don't need any zip ties or extra wire or anything. I always put the traps in the mouth of a creek. Instead of a float, I'd find something inconspicuous to tie it to, that way it's less likely to be stolen. I haven't done this in years, but it always worked great when I was a kid.
