I have a few chug bugs and some grubs already in the tackle box. Im going to try more with lures this weekend then shrimp most likely. But if the fish start attacking my shrimp the lures will have to wait

Anyways... I will let you guys know how I did.

After he buys all the recommended lures, he would have been able to purchase a dadgum shrimp hatchery with the money he's spent! (Bet he'll catch bigger trout though.)

Of course my tackle junkie self could own a shrimp hatchery. Maybe I should have just stayed with a shrimp & a cork.

I think we've negelcted to mention the most important piece of advice regarding fishing with lures.

Anything will work 100% of the time if you're where the fish are and if you're throwing what they want. Therefore the well rounded angler must have at least one of everything in every color.

Do yourself a favor and go sans shrimp. Bigger fish take the artificials. Small fish likem them shrimp. When they are taking shrimp, they will take artificials.

Seriously though Mojo, you have gotten excellent advice here and I can add nothing. But I would like to "amen" one more time on that bit about catching larger trout on lures (especially the large topwaters and jerk baits) than you will on shrimp.

I did a cleaning and assessment of my tackle box last night....I parred it down to only 7 Plano 3700s, one small plano for hooks, weights and what not....Then I filled my boat bag with 30 packs of soft plastics ...I did place about 15 mirrolures into the holding pen

I felt enough good advice had been given, so I've stayed out of this thread. But, I have to disagree with charles' statement. NEVER buy 1 of anything. What happens when you've caught several fish on the 1 bait you have, then you lose it. It is a must to have at least 2 of everything.

A couple of you have claimed to be "Tackle Junkies". Steve and Butch may be the only people on this forum that have more tackle than me. If I had all the money I've spent on tackle I could retire.

I've used this line, almost verbatim, on my wife when buying fishing tackle. She's quit asking.
Her: "Why do you always buy 2, or 3, or 4 of everything?"
Me: "Because if it's what the fish are hitting and you lose the only one you have, you're out of business. Always have at least two of everything."

In my humble opinion, 6 is better than 2.

I have to say amen to the artificial chorus, you catch more of what you want and less catfish. Not to mention my boat seems to be cleaner at the end of the day when I don't use live bait, except for the fish blood.

Chug bugs in large and small and every color, Catch 2000's, 1/4oz jig heads in white, red and plain, every color of SWA and any other brand you can fit in your tackle box and at least one Cajun Thunder (I like the big ones) float (weighted). That would be a good start, in my homble opinion.
