What about the Garmin 178C unit? Anyone have one. It is the combo version of the 172C.

Dont have one, and yes it is the combo, but (3.2" H x 3.2" W (4.5" diagonal) viewing area) if you split that you may need a telescope to see both. If you want a single unit, how big $$$ can you go. The 10" units are gonaa be some $$$.

I should have read Captspride answer closer. He says he has a 178C.
Dstockwell, I've looked at the 10 inch units and that is what I really like. I just have a problem seeing myself spending that kind of money. I am thinking I might get a 178C for now and then maybe a larger bottom machine later. The 178C is only about $100 more than the 172C.

Man, I've got a headache over trying to figure out what to do.
I've made a decision. Based on the price and inclusion of bluewater cartology built in, I decided to order Garmin's new 498C unit with external gps and external dual freq transducer.
It was only $100 bucks more than the standalone GPS unit, so if it works out to be too small to see, I will not feel too terrible about ordering another stand alone unit. I really don't see myself using split screen except when I am re-running trolling and/or drifting patterns.
I usually don't like all in ones and this may be no exception.
Thanks for all the ideas guys!
