I will gladly answer SR's questions in order.

1) West
2)4-6 feet
3)New Penny & Nuclear Chicken

Now the redfish info. I wish I could take credit for some God given fishing skills but here's the truth. I was probably a mile or so offshore fishing with the CT and I had my head turned when I felt the redfish start tugging. I turned back around and didn't see my CT and at that point I set the hook. As far as know I was not around any structure, I guess he was just out there crusing around. The whole think completely confused me. I figured it must just be because I am living right........no, wait....that can't be it. Oh well, I'm not proud. I'll take it.
As odd and unhelpful as this story may sound, that's how it happened. It made for a nice photo.

Thanks for the information Welby  Now as to your concern about not having visible contact with your CT when a fish happens to take a running start and takes off with it...... If it ain't already happened to every member of this forum... it WILL! I believe what this tells us is this.... sometimes , many times,..... HECK.. maybe even all the time!! we have a tendency to fish the Cajun Thunder TO FAST! Especially when the bite is slow we have a tendency to MAKE SOMPUN HAPPEN! and start jerking quicker and harder. It's tough fishing when the best approach is to let the thing float and just keep up with the slack and just pop it once or twice on the way back to the boat. In addition, it's possible but IMO not likely that the Red was just out there for no reason at all. He was there for a reason and I'd keep that spot in mind as well as the time of day, stage of the water movement, etc. for future reference. Thanks again for the report and the good job of following up on questions.

Lots of large reds caught in that area over the years by friends and myself while trout fishing. I personally think it's the spotted heavy grass cover and proximity to numerous good creeks, bars, etc.

In the same area two Sundays ago was reeling in a 14"ish trout and at the boat a huge red rose up and suspended behind the trout and just sucked him out of sight. The red just stayed there and when I eased some tension on the line the trout exited his mouth...dead for sure....probably heart failure! :o The red just eased
back from the boat and out of sight. An over slot red for sure.
My fishing partner Al Manry and I just looked at each other in
disbelief.

Flats fishing is not for the faint of heart! :-D

...and just when we thought you were a tennis player!!!
