I still say there are more rocks at St. Marks than Econfina...only fished Econfina for many years.....started going to St. Marks and there are some kinda rocks at St. Marks...there is only one "Rock Garden".....though there are some mighty fine limestone boulders east of Econfina in the creek known to only a few as "Precious" ....seeing the Rock Garden and Grey Mare at a negative low tide is a thing of beauty and fear

I think Blackshear, who started this post & what a post it turned out to be, is taking Charles' advice and riding w/ me.

5) This last one will sound crazy, but I almost prefer the water being dark (usually is) as the times we've had drought conditions long enough to get the water crystal clear, I see how many rocks I'm running by and know how much luck still plays a part in running damage free despite the confidence I have in my routes... :smt103

:-D Blacksheer do a search on here for rock coordinates and you should get plenty. Someone on here a few years back posted a pretty comprehensive list. I also posted on here the rocks out the mouth of which you are speaking. Also there is a big rock at the ramp and one just past the no wake zone on the way out. For most boats safe passage means 1.5' of water above mean sea level.

You can never know this area too good. I started fishing Econfina about 11 years ago and took a 2.5 year break while in Tampa. I have never hit a rock that wasnt easily forgiven until Sat Dec 5, Lowest tide I have ever seen. If I remember correctly I was pretty close top the Bird rack to the West of Rock Island (within about a half mile when I hammered one. A bent shaft and briken bearing carrier later and I almost wanna start fishing Keaton. I did move from Econ to Finholloway last year. It seems more reliable to me with getting out without hitting something. I just make sure to idle at the mouth on a low tide or for about a mile on an extreme.

I have fished there a few times thus far. I hope the fishing Gods keep on my side because I think that the only place I've never hit anything.

Go slow and take your time, there be dragons in dem dar waters!
The only rocks I've hit there are in the river but I still say a little prayer when I launch and don't quit until I'm back on 59.
