I was out in front of the Econfina this weekend. The water was fairly clear, but no scallops. This was my first time launching in the Econfina. I have picked up scallops in St. Joe bay, the water there is very clear, and finding them in the deeper holes is fairly easy.
SHOWBOAT, you mentioned the Aucilla. Are there scallops typically out from there? I was mainly fishing for trout between the Econfina and the Aucilla , about 2-3 miles offshore. I jumped in at all the holes we found, in about 5 ft water , where the holes dropped off to about 9ft. Sand, semi- rocky bottom with alot of scallop shells littering the bottom, but no live ones. Is typically the type of bottom to find scallops in this area.

Re: Scalloping?
It seems as though I was wrong, we went last weekend w/ some really good friends. We're also going in 2 weeks with another group of friends that have never been, so that ought to be fun.
