Definitely NOT a Python or Boa. About 99.93% certain it is a Cottonmouth. The .07% uncertainty is due to no head.
It is a good thing you got rid of it. They can be extremely aggressive. Once they find a spot to call their own they will defend it at all costs.
I disagree that a dead snake is a good snake. Most are beneficial and non venomous. They eat pests around my house, rodents, palmetto bugs, the errant neighbor's cat or dog (kidding), and do not make a lot of noise.

If I told you how many idiot snake huggers had told me that cotton mouths are not aggressive, you would not believe me. I have offered to take them into the real world to see what I've seen, but for some reason, they didn't jump in the truck!

This snake looks and sounds like a recently shed cotton mouth. The pictures of its mouth confirms the ID. It was a BAD BOY. It is now a GOOD SNAKE!

Atticus, unless you put it in the freezer guessing it's getting rank now but that would be an awesome skin to mount. All you have to do is strip the skin, tack it to a board with the stripped-from-the flesh side up and cover it in salt. Let dry out good in the sun, stain a board with routed edges, glue the dried snake skin to the stained board and spray whole thing with a medium gloss varnish. Will look awesome. I've got a big rattler I killed / mounted it's skin now hanging in my office and it's a real attention getter. Heck if you still have the snake and will freeze it I'll do it for you. So many cottonmouths get dark with age that the skin off that one makes for a great show-piece.

Did the head have a distinctive & prominent triangle shape?

I would rule out any Python or Boas based upon the size of the scales.
Agreed. Ball pythons have smaller smoother scales, not larger rougher ones like this one.
