If you were in trouble, though, I would have gladly rendered assistance despite the tourney rules and I'll bet others would have also. I was less than a couple miles away. Potential life-threatening situations always take precedence over fishing.

Ditto to Silverking's comment!!!! There's always another day to fish!!! Glad you guys are ok. Hope you get your boat issues solved pronto!

My 10 yr. old son Andrew and I spent yesterday evening removing the motor, cables, wiring, electronics and everything else from our damaged boat and putting it in the garage. One thing I found that surprised me - my battery posts, and some of the wiring to the bilge and depth finder were burned badly.
I am real sure I would have had a fire if I hadn't had so much water in the boat.
My battery was beneath my rear deck in a plastic box with no lid. I guess the water in the boat floated it high enough to ground both the positive and negative post against the underside of the aluminum deck. This is why I was feeling electricity going through my fingers when I was removing the grass from the motor. I was grounding myself back to the motor. I am amazed that the motor kept restarting the 9 or 10 times that we had to shut it down to clean the intake.
When I re-wire the new hull, I am going to leave a couple feet of extra wire near the battery so that if this ever happens again, I can pull the battery out of the storage box and set it on a higher point in the boat.
