Time to hang up the survey stuff and get ready for the opening of gags in state waters on the first. Weather looks calm so far, and I'm thinking some trolling. Stretch 30, green back, and a fire tiger.
Like it or not, I've got my Gulf Reef Permit in the tackle box for the marine patrol officer I will never see.

They are to ignorant or crooked to ban commercial fishing. It solves all the problems or go to a tag system. The gulf produces the largest recreational fishing profits in the world and these federal/state officials are ruining it. Most recreational fisherman keep less grouper and snapper than a commercial fisherman has hooks on a single line. Guess it's like the buffalo, horses, rabbits, turkeys etc... The list goes on and on of the species spoiled by commercialism. If recreational fisherman don't stand up for our fisheries then politicians will continue to take handouts from commercial activists. Our next generations will miss out on the sport we love.

It's my understanding Louisiana has been surveying and are finding the feds best scientific information guesses are way over what LA is finding in actual surveys.

It's not perfect but it's better than what we have with the feds. I'm all for helping the Gulf States get back control of the Gulf and reef fishing. If this helps I'll spend a few minutes signing up and taking a phone or dock survey. It sure can't be any worse that the mess the feds have made.

As for over 65 and vets, if you want your kids and grandkids to fish get involved and change it if you don't like this. Right now it's our best option. I really hope yall participate. As I said, it's a whole lot better than the feds guesses that everyone with a salt water license fishes for reef fish a lot and catches their limit. I'm lucky to get out reef fishing 4 to 6 times a year but I bet the feds have my license pegged as twice that much with a limit every trip.

I agree with this fellow with one exception: I believe the Feds have every licensed recreational fisherman out catching the limit of reef fish every day of the season whether or not they are in a boat in sight of land or fishing from a dock. How else could they come up with those incredulous catch numbers?

Heck, Look at the unemployment numbers the fed releases every month! They do that by not including folks that quit looking. And why should they look? They can now sit on their cans and make more than minimum wages now.
