Bank of America Reject Boy Scouts
Private Discrimination isn't just about race and nationalities no more.
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation declined to give the Boy Scouts Council in Valdosta a donation because we discriminate against gays.
Check out the link for important message from the Council President to see the letter from Bank of America's Foundation and my reply:

What a shame! I'm sure many, many employees of Bank of America
will be embarassed and angered when they find out about this decision.
I'm afraid it simply demonstrates the attitude of "corporate America"
today.
I remain as proud of my Eagle Scout (1955) and OA (1957) status as I do my college and professional degrees. Some may not understand that
statement but it is true.
I understand losing the support of any sponsor but to lose one for the reason given is very disheartening. Keep your eye on the goals and successes of the Scouting movement and all will work out.

Short Strike
I only have one remaining Semilachee Lodge patch from the late 50s....
every time it ever comes up in conversation someone tries to buy it.
Some things money just can't buy. Great exeriences, great training,
great friends....wish all young men would take advantage of it.
My hearty congrats on God and Country Award! My younger brother
is an Eagle and God and Country recipient but not OA. Our Mom's
favorite jewelry is her two Mother's Eagles joined with a chain.
She's 89 and when we're all together some of our favorite topics
still revolve around our years and experiences in Scouting.

Eagle Scout 1998.
Just attended the Eagle Court of Honor for one of my Scouts two Saturdays ago.
Thats too bad about the bank. Its getting to where you can't stand for anything these days without being perceived as descriminatory.
Scouting does more good for more young men than any other organization in this country.

Boy Scouts
There was an interesting article on the Boy Scouts in yesterday's Tallahassee Democrat. Oliver North expounded on the values of the Boy Scouts and the recent attacks they have come under.

Hay RHTFISH,
AWESOME!!!
I have the mid 60's version of the Semialachee patch.
I earned my Eagle in Redlands Calif (just outside San Bernadino). I traded for my Semialachee patch on a visit to my grandparents in Tallahassee one summer. I'll try to get a picture of it for you to see.
I also have a couple of patches $ can't buy. One is the BSA Grand Canyon Trail Hiker patch earned hiking down to the bottom of the canyon on the Kibob trail and returning to the top on the Bright Angle Trail. It was three days of my youth that I will never forget!
Hay T Smith,
Please extend my congratulations to your scout. He is now a member of a very elite group. I hope he is aware of the magnitude of his accomplishment.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

I read last year about a young man in Lake City, Fl engaged in an Eagle Project which centered around extensive personal care kits for homeless people. I sent him a check as it was not feasible to try and mail items to him. In return, I received one of the nicest letters of gratitude I've ever received. Also, in April he sent the wife and I an invitation to his Eagle Court of Honor. His name is Jason Harrison....obviously a fine and deserving young man.

I'd love to see your "newer" Semialachee patch!Short Strike wrote:Hay RHTFISH,
