Took the family out to meet some friends at the bird rack and hang out swimming and eating. Since they were in the pontoon boat we figured we could get out and fish a little before we saw them. Went to the first pole on the west flats and started a drift. My 6 yr old tossed in a line with a shrimp under a CT and since she didn't get a bite in 30 seconds put her rod in the rod holder and proceeded to eat. While I was rigging my rod I see her cork go down, I pick up the rod to set the hook and hand it to her and the reel starts singing. Up flies 3 ft of tarpon full gill spread head shake and hook spitting. My wife and I are jaw dropped and my daughter is just laughing. Not much else biting so I drop a sabiki rig and pull up a 2 in pinfish, put it on and in no time that reel is singing. I know by the head shake and pull its a nice trout, 24 inches nice. Fished about 45 min and brought just the one trout to the boat.
Headed over to the bird rack and anchored in with the crowd, this was the first time out there for us. Everybody had a blast. My wife has informed me that we will be doing that every other weekend. Found sand dollars, starfish and had a school of dolphin about 10 strong go on a feeding frenzy by the rack, ful acrobatics, kids loved it.

One of my partners for the day

My wife just bought the boy a pair. Good thing he's only three. By the time he's ready to start pushing the boat off mudflats I'll have him different pair :-D :-D .

They are ugly as sin but great in the boat and the best fishing shoes I have found for a bad back. Side note, they are no good on a slippery ramp, notice the cuts on the shin. Fort ramp gets me every time.
