Memorial Wknd St Joe Report

Our fourth annual trip to cape san blas was once again a great fishing trip. we really worked on the redfish, catching just under fifty reds in three days with some flounder, trout, and blues mixed in.
thursday we got there around 2 and i took my dad and wife out for a little late afternoon bay action. it was a little slow, but with no tide movement at all i was happy with the trout we managed to catch. one spot i loved to fish produced all the fish. we couldn't get much going in other areas. the highlight of the afternoon was the 150 lb class tarpon that rolled in the back of the bay. totally unexpected and when he rolled we thought it was a shark until he swam right by the boat in that gin clear water and we got a good look at him. he was a hoss.
friday was amazing. we managed 18 reds, several trout and lost a ton of flounder. we were fishing with the usual arties and just couldn't get them in the net. the reds cooperated right in the boat for us though. here are a few pics.
saturday was our best day. took my dad and his girlfriend out in the morning. we smoked the reds catching somewhere around 25 (we lost count b/c we would get to a spot and catch 6 or 7 at a time). my dads girlfriend hooked the mogan sow trout pictured below. we also landed several nice flounder.
all four of us went out saturday afternoon for some st joe bay action again and once again it was slow. just nothing going on. did find one nice school of blues that we hooked into for a little while. however, each afternoon the wind got to blowing so hard that it was tough to even fish.
sunday and monday were suprisingly slow. all i can figure is the wind had the tide backed up so that it just wouldn't move on sunday and monday we woke to an east wind which really made the fishing nice weather wise, but the fish didn't like it. we still managed 8 reds and a nice 22 inch flounder and a couple of trout on sunday and 2 reds in a couple of short hours fishing on monday before we headed home. another great trip down there and i can't wait til next year.
