Question for the mechanics

I have a 1989 Ford F-250 7.3 diesel with 75,000 miles. Last night coming home from a fsihing trip my oil pressure guage went to "low" and the engine light came on. My questions follow:

Is it more likely the guage/sending unit or the oil pump?

This mileage is nothing for a diesel and I can't imagine the pump being bad.

Where is the oil pump if I need to change it?

I know it's gear driven (kinda looks like a water pump) but I have no idea were it's located.

Check oil level, if low oil pressure light is still on, change oil sending unit (pressure switch) that's very cheap....if it's still on have the check engine light scanned ....and check the oil pressure with a guage.....you may want to do this anyway when you have the sending unit off, that is, if you have pressure guage.....sending unit is at firewall.....you must pull the oil pan to get to the oil pump.....8-9 hr job in a shop......good luk   oil pressure should be 10 lbs @ idle, 40-70 lbs @ 2200 rpms

That's exaclty the info I was looking for. Thank you! I went to the parts store and bought an oil pressure guage to install this weekend. That way I'll know what the pressure is. Thanks again.
