St. Joe Bay - Stump Hole - 6/10-6/18
Me and my buddy floated the bay in kayaks in the vicinity of the Stump Hole, Cape San Blas. 6/10-6/18
First day was slow, only taking one red on a Skitter Walk. We had a few other blow ups, but no hooks ups.
As Alberto approached and the full moon set up some really high tides, the fishing picked up quick. We also switched up our approach a little and went to fishing "Gulp" saltwater soft plastics under a CT. Both the reds and specks were going after the Gulps pretty good. We probably averaged about 5 nice fish a day each, with a few lunker reds and one or two gator trouts......everything else was decent size.
The few days after Alberto passed things slowed a little. We still managed about 5 fish per day, however the size seemed to go down. We started catching a lot of smaller trout with an occasional nice size red.
By the 17th and 18th things stayed on the slow side. One or two nice fish per day with lots of small trout and trash fish. My buddy became real good at catching catfish, ladyfish, little blues, and pins.
All week the top water bite was slow, however all fish taken on top water were large (2 reds, 1 gator trout). Skitter walk, Spook, and jumbo Chug Bug.
I would recomend trying out the Gulp (3" Pogy or Shrimp) under a CT. It produced nice results and we didn't have to worry about keeping live bait alive.
Tight lines.......screaming drag!
PS.....Got pulled out into the bay about 500 yards by something huge on the second day. It spooled me about three times before the line got under his gill plate and snapped.

My buddy forgot to mention that I ripped three monster reds, all the reds he caught were one pounders at best. He also failed to mention that he screamed like a little girt when he saw a little shark come close to his boat. He also crapped the bed on our last day of fishing.
Tight lines screaming drags!!!!
Here we go..............
Tell them how you caught a 1" pin fish the entire first day... it was larger than your slash bait.
And don't forget how you dumped a $75 Leatherman in 2' of water and were too much of a puss to go get it
Oh, yeah....you also dumped your kayak anchor in the guts......pretty smooth
