Left the river at 6:30 with some folks from Atlanta that I guide on their boat on a regular basis.

Seas were as flat as I've ever seen. Not even any swells. Mill pond still. Caught some nice baits at the sea bouys and made our way to O tower. When we got there 3/4 of the bait was dead. Bait at the tower was very small.

We put down a blue runner while we sabikied bait and it was inhaled by something big. After about a minute the line broke. The next 2 down were both cut clean off.

Since it was calm we made a run for deeper water. Got to S tower and the water was so clear blue it was purple. Vis probably 70 feet or better. A huge school of permit.....yes....permit was circling the tower. No bait here though and we had nothing to throw to the permit. We headed further SW to 115 feet of water and set up a drift over coral bottom. Caught so many short red grouper and snapper it was insane. Managed 4 keeper red snapper, 2 lanes and 3 red grouper. Had one of our only live baits out and it was inhaled by a 10 pound mahi that made some sweet jumps.

After the tide stopped the bite shut down for the rest of the day. We hit several more numbers on the way in with 1 king and 1 spanish to show for it . Put 100 miles on the boat as we got back to the river. Biggest wave all day was a 2 footer in the pass that was aided by a boat wake. Ungodly hot.

More live bait could have made the difference. Wish we could have found some.

I had them with me but I didn't get a chance to fish. Was too busy taking off fish and rigging rods and catching bait.

Sat by 10:30 we gave up the rods and hit the water.

I think I will stick with diving for July and August except I have got to get my nephew on a Tarpon. Thinking Mud Cove or East Pass. If that don't work I guess it's west pass.

Great trip Tom.

Its nice when its flat but it sure is hot.

My brother fished Carrabelle yesterday in the bay. He said the bay was covered up with tarpon. He went from 98 to both islands and saw tarpon in large schools everywhere he went.
