How far could you take this boat offshore?

As Ron White would say, " All the way to the scene of the accident "

Mojo, I have the 186 BayReef. If you pick your days, you can go as far as you want. I've had mine 20 miles out. The 186 handles 3' seas pretty well.

Thanks for the info Tincan. I am most likely going to purchase a 196 bay reef in about 6 to 7 months. I have heard people say that you really "need" a 150 HP motor but would a 119 HP motor do fine?

I have a 115 on my 186. It gets up fine, and will run about 38 WOT. I would think you would fare better with a 150 on the 196.

Why the 196 bay/reef? Are you looking at adding a trolling motor for inshore? Just curious because that boats advertised draft is 10", if you were only considering it for fishing bay/reef then why not the KW 2020 CC, you can fish 3 - 4 ft water inshore, and head offshore also. If your going with the b/r get the 150.

A friend of mine has a 196 bay reef, it's a very nice boat & handles 2' - 3' seas ok if you have to with it, but it is not an offshore boat.Go with the 150hp.

I was wanting to do Inshore and Offshore. I mostly fish inshore but I want the capability to say "Hey today I think I will go for some grouper".

Definitely go with the 150, or look at the 150-175 zukes. The 115 would be a dog.

HEY MOJO
ONE DAY LAST YEAR IN OCT. E.T. AND I WERE FISHING THE K TOWER AND LO AND BEHOLD HERE COMES AN OLD MAN, LOOKED TO BE ABOUT 70 OR SO. HE WAS IN A LUND ALUM. 14 ' BOAT WITH A 10 HP JOHNSON ON IT. HE WANTED TO KNOW IF THE TOWER WE WERE FISHING WAS THE K TOWER, I TOLD HIM IT WAS AND ASKED IF HE HAD A GPS, HE SAID NO, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD A COMPASS ; HE SAID HE DID BUT DIDN'T THINK IT WORKED. SAID HE LEFT DESTIN SEVERAL HOURS EARLIER AND THE COMPASS WAS INDICATING EAST. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL AN OLD FOOL. WE ASKED IF HE WANTED US TO LEAD HIM BACK TOWARD DESTIN, HE SAID HE KNEW WHICH WAY DESTIN WAS POINTING TO THE SOUTH, WE TRIED TO CONVINCE HIM THAT THE DIRECTION HE WAS POINTING WAS SOUTH BUT HE WOULD NOT LISTEN. HE ONLY HAD 2=6 GAL. TANKS, ON THE WAY BACK HOME WE PHONED THE COAST GUARD AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IT. I HOPE THAT OLD COOT MADE IT BACK HOME. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, YES YA CAN GET OUT TO THE K IN THE BOAT YOU WERE REFERRING TO BUT I WOULD BE WITH ANOTHER BOAT ON A VERY CALM DAY.
PA THE OLD MAN OF THE SEA
