First off Happy Fourh of July!

Well I went to Lake Jackson, and since the bottom fell out its only accessible by yak, mud buddy or airboat. First time I ever been there and wish I had a scale. Take note that the biggest largemouth is over 28 inches. Not a bad fish. Wish I had taken better pics.

The small one is 1 of 20 or so less than 3 lbs.

That's a beast of a fish - 28 inches and fat. It would probably go around 12 lbs. Did you get a girth for it?

Girth, no, I usually don't measure fish but wish I had on that one.

Nice fish!

Where did you launch your yak? Did you have to cover a lot of water to get to the fish (especially the biggun!)?

Launched off Faulk Rd and no I didn't have to cover a lot of water, ther is not much water in Jackson. I was fishing with Saltwater Assasin rootbeer jerkbait with no weight, and a little twitch for a couple of yards then cast again. I caught 4 more tonight with biggest 4 lbs.

Sounds good...

I talked to a FWC officer a couple of weeks ago, and he said they've had lots of problems with people driving on the lake bed to get to fishable water (and who knows what else). So, I was wondering where I could launch.

FWC had problems. What kind of problems because this road is well worn and unposted? I hope its okay!

Jsuber,

He said that there are signs posted at all of the landings warning folks not to drive on the lake bottom, but obviously people are still doing it. He said if they see violators, they issue warnings in hopes that'll take care of it. But, if they keep catching the same folks doing it, they're going to give out tickets. FWC is not always out there, but when they are, he'll probably pay you a visit. :-D

I'll take pictures of the signs I have seen, and I must have missed it, but I didn't see anything, unless those roads are not considered lake bottom.

Jsuber,

Nice Fish! I'll have to agree with Bailey. I go to the lake often. For a long time there was no ordinance against driving on the lake bottom, which created the roads. They since have done this, and the FWC will stop ya. They are usually on 4-wheelers, so they sneak up on ya. I know there was signs posted but they get torn down as soon as they are up. Great pics though, lets hope for some rain so we don't worry about it at all.

Did you see the friendly gator why you were there?

WOW what a Trophy of a fish...

I used to fish out there until they started posting signs warning you that eating fish taken from the lake, more than twice a week, could be hazardous to your health. I took my canoe to saltwater and started taking fish from the gulf...

I was curious about mjsigns post, so I hunted a little. There wasn't anything on Lake Jackson (everyone probably still thinks it's dry from a few years back :-D ), but if you look towards the end of the link, it doesn't recommend eating any saltwater fish more than twice a week.

Hopefully I can sneak out soon and fish, whether it's fresh or salt....
