After the Deluge (big rain) a couple of days ago I went out to flush the pool and empty the skimmer basket.

I notice a ton of little bugs on the bottom of the pool. When I say tons I mean hundreds or maybe even a thousand.
I Fished a few out and they smell like shrimp- look like little weird shrimp.

These things were everywhere and they were really tiny.

We live in Tallahassee- so I'm thinking how did these get to my pool this far from the coast- Water Spout? Weird stuff going on in the clouds?

Well after some research on Google I find out they are Amphipods a Crustacean also know as Lawn Shrimp.

UF has a web page about them....
http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/amphipods.htm

Apparently they live in mulch and when we had that big rain they climbed up the to the edge of the pool trying to find high ground.

Think they would make good bait? I bet the Bream would tear them up!

I keep getting fiddler crabs in mine. Not just a few but a bunch. I live across the street from the bay. I have to get them out before my boys Sunday School class comes over on Wednesday.

That reminded me of this.
Lots of strange creatures out there!

Are you going to fry them Barry? They might be tough to peel.

I have had these in my pool in Dothan in the past. They showed up for a few weeks, but they eventually left. I think they are springtails, and they actually live in the soil around the pool and tend to get in the pool by accident. They are usually dead when you see them and they look more like shrimp once they have drowned and start changing colors.

They look like scuds or sowbugs. Lots of them in rivers like the White and Norfork in Arkansas. I tie a fly pattern that resembles them. Use them for trout fishing but I've caught a lot of bream in Baker county ponds with them too. They're usually grey or shrimp colored but when they die, they turn an orange shade.
