What is the best oil or grease to use in your reels?

It should read best oil and grease, not one or the other.... Pawls and worm type gears like grease, oil on bearings and other moving parts.

I use the following oils, 3 in 1 (actually read report and it is in the same class as the exotic reel oils), Rocket Fuel, Quantum Hot Sauce and ABU Garcia.

For grease, I use the Abu Garcia grease and Shimano grease.

Not enough or too much of either one is a bad thing, use both sparingly

The rule of thumb I follow is:
If it moves or spins during casting it gets 3-in-1 Oil.
If it moves or spins only during the retrieve it gets Le Tour Weather Proof Grease. A lithium based waterproof grease supposedly designed for bicycle bearings, but does a very good job on reels. Unfortunately my source for this stuff burned to the ground and it doesn't look like they're coming back. :smt010

Been using 3 in 1 oil for 35 years with no complaint. I use either ABU or Shimano grease on the worm gear, and drive gears. It works better and doesn't gum up as bad if you thin the grease with a little bit of 3 in 1.
