St. Mark's 8-19/20

Took my son and one of his buddies to St. Mark's for a couple days fishing before college starts back full swing. Shook the boys loose at 0600 and on the water by 0700. First stop Stoney Bayou to see if we could pick up some reds....no joy. Left for the east flats and got in 6-7 feet of water, and managed a couple nice trout to 19" with Gulp shrimp. That shut down and went deeper to about 10-12'. Nothing after that, but lots of trash. Went back in for some lunch and figured to catch the falling tide in the evening. Early morning start, heat, and big lunch put the boys to sleep (stone cold) in the afternoon, who indicated after lunch they may not be up for the evening jaunt. I left for an evening trip (alone) and managed a nice 23" trout on top water on the second cast. Nothing more. Same start this morning, but went straight for deeper water. Managed 3 keeper trout to 20," a nice spanish, and a ton of lady fish, sharks and cats.....all on Gulp. At the ramp and heading back to Albany by 13:00. Another great day on the water.

I'm jealous of them trout.
Fishin's just not great right now but at least you get plenty of action with the gulps (if you don't go broke)

RFJ, You aren't kidding about going broke on gulps. I went through about (4) bags, and toward the end of the trip was down to using 1/2 gulps (the half the ladyfish or pinfish left). I'm kicking myself for not picking up more packs when a local hunting/fishing store was having a 10% off sale on tackle recently.
Forgot to mention I had a cat crash my topwater bait the first cast of the morning Sunday.

excellent

I too have had luck with both the top-water, as well as them "Gulp's" shrimp as of lately.

Sounds like a fun trip for sure!
Sure wish everyone would stop throwing those topwater baits...
I think they are scaring the fish away!
Sure wish I had some stock in GULPS!
