Hit the water about 10:00 AM to fish the falling tide. Plan was to go up a creek, catch a redfish, and then move out further to see what else I could scare up.
Got 5 redfish up the creek. Two barely over 18", two about 23" and the biggest about 26". Also got a couple of trout that were right at 15". Put them back as they would have probably been a little short after sitting on ice for a couple of hours.
Then went out to hard bottom in 20', then moved to 14' and finished the day near the 2nd stake.
Got a very nice Spanish in 14' but they just weren't feeding or I would have gotten more (or at least cutoffs). Had several nice spanish follow my jig to the boat several times. Couldn't troll with a spoon because of the grass. Black sea bass were everywhere. About 1 good one for every 5 shorts. Kept several of the nicer fish for the frydaddy tonite.
Ladyfish, small jacks and a few more short trout provided entertainment as well.
Must have generated some good Karma from releasing the marginal trout. A fellow at the ramp had only one keeper trout in his box and didn't want to fool with it. So I brought home a trout anyway.
He released two small tarpon (25lbs) on light spinning tackle. That must have been a blast!
Other than one cast with a spoon that brought back 2 lbs of grass, bounced gulp lures off the bottom the entire day. Color didn't seem to matter.
With fun and games out of the way, it's time to get serious about the epic showdown between good and evil that's about to take place down south.
GO NOLES!!!
