Lanark 9-16

Dawn was breaking when I slipped the Mechele into the boat basin at Lanark. I put the nav. lights on for the first time, and popped on the spreader light to load up. Aahhh, those new innovations that actually work. The white light is mounted on top of the t-top so it doesn't blind you, unlike my old boat's placement. Nice.
On heading out just past the two markers across the shoal, immediately noticed pods of fish working the surface. A quick cast indicated it was ladies, and they were everywhere all day. I would stop on a school, catch two or three for fun, then move on. I was happy when they got off before getting to the boat, as they always make a mess, even when I hold them over the side and use the hookout.
Tried for pilchards at the cove, and only a few, and small. To the bait buoy, no bait, except for whatever smallish bait the ladies were hounding everwhere. To the first spot in 55', one red grouper, not much else. Seas were calm with a short period slick chop, wind out of the NE about 5. Very little tide movement, not a good thing.
Tried two other spots, nothing doing. K-tower loaded with bait, but small. Finally, had enough offshore and moved to Dog Island Reef for some casting fun. Little blues, ladies, and a mack now and then, just about every cast. Trout would follow up when I brought a blue in, but I think they got out competed by the blues. Headed in at 1:30. Lovely day, a fish for today's dinner, lots of fish caught but not kept. Only bad thing, it makes for a long day.
