Horseshoe Beach Fishing Report

Fished Saturday out of Horseshoe. It was windy (I was drifting just over a knot/hour). I fished the deeper flats at low tide with very little action. One keeper trout that fought like a big ladyfish; it put on a spectacular show on its way to the boat. At high tide, I moved in and fished the oyster bars. We caught two nice reds in no time. I made it back to Gainesville in time to do some tailgating and go to the football game . I am soaking the redfish in some brine as I write. I will smoke them tonight and make a dip :lick: . My neighbor fished Horseshoe for a few days last week and said they couldn't buy a fish. I think as the temperatures cool down a bit, the fishing will pick up.

Sir Reel,

Let me get back to you after I try this one. It's the first time I've used this recipe.

On a similar topic, I smoked a bunch of Salmon I caught in Alaska using a salt and brown sugar marinade. I smoked it for about 45 minutes and have used the stuff on everything from sushi, to mixing with cream cheese to deviled eggs.

I'll post in the recipe forum if it turns out well.

To be honest, I was disappointed. We usually limit out on trout at Horseshoe and have put back several >20". True it was me, three kids and a family member that has suffered a stroke. But even the kids were throwing gold spoons all day. Still, we usually do better.

I am smoking the reds as I write. More on that tomorrow.
